UM Debaters Earn Top Tournament Honors

David Silverman and Spencer George are the 2014 Junior Varsity Southeast Debate Champions.  Debating at Emory University on February 21 to23, Spencer and David compiled a perfect 6-0  record, advancing into finals where they won a 3-0 decision to defeat ACC rivals Wake Forest and claim the championship.  Also competing and contributing to the UM success were Joe Karam and Russ Wilde, Adrianne Babun-Chavaria and Anna Shah, and Nabiha Aziz and Anna Ivanova.  On February 15, UM Debate also defeated local rivals to win the championship of the Miami Dade [...]

Call for Entries: Wine Spectator Foundation Competition To Award Up To $50,000 For Student Projects

The Wine Spectator Foundation will award up to $50,000 to School of Communication undergraduate and graduate students for projects about wine, food, restaurants, travel or tourism. Such projects may include, but are not limited to, a video or short documentary, news or feature writing, a press kit, an advertising project, a graphic design project, a photography portfolio, multimedia (website) or a scholarly paper. Distraction Magazine and the Ibis Yearbook also were recognized among the top student publications in the country by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA)  during a ceremony on March 14 in New York City.   Distraction/distractionmagazine.com and Ibis Yearbook 2013 staffs walked away each with a Gold Crown, the highest honor one can receive from the CSPA.
