UMTV
UMTV is the University of Miami’s Emmy Award-winning, student-run cable TV station. Guided by SoC faculty, UMTV produces weekly newscasts and a variety of programming, including a live newscast, a weekly sports show, a late night comedy show, and a Spanish-language news program.
In addition to airing in the Coral Gables area, shows are also streamed live and archived online at http://umtv.miami.edu. Gifts to the UMTV Fund support general operating expenses of UMTV.
The Miami Hurricane
The Miami Hurricane is an award-winning newspaper published by students at the University of Miami. Ten thousand copies of each issues are distributed at more than 50 on and off-campus locations every Monday and Thursday.
The Miami Hurricane is widely read by students, faculty, alumni, staff, families, fans and prospective students in both print and online versions at www.themiamihurricane.com, and thousands of Canes subscribe to the site’s bi-weekly and breaking news updates.
Distraction Magazine
Distraction Magazine is a sophisticated, high-gloss semesterly magazine that is committed to defining the culture of University of Miami’s student body. This new publication serves as an entertaining and insightful “Distraction” to the daily stress of college life and features new trends in music, fashion, art, entertainment and student interests.
As a student-run publication at the University of Miami, Distraction seeks to provide an influential, powerful source of life-style information for and about the UM student community. As the newest and only student lifestyle publication at UM, Distraction is dedicated to becoming the most read student publication at UM and Coral Gables.
WVUM 90.5 FM
The award-winning Voice offers an ever molding and expanding music selection, with rotation and specialty show formats. Rotation shows feature the latest Heavy and Medium rotation albums selected by the music directors and music staff while specialty shows focus on a specific genre, style or concept.
The radio station also offers news, public affairs and sports programming. WVUM is the flagship station for Hurricane baseball, and cover women’s volleyball, basketball and Men’s football and basketball as well. The news department offers hourly newscasts, featured news, public service announcements and community outreach.
Ibis Yearbook
The University of Miami’s Ibis yearbook, made its debut in 1927 at the end of the University’s first year. In the foreword of the first yearbook, the strength and spirit of those pioneering students rang out: “We have no traditions to follow, no precedents to guide us in our venture into the realms of education… We are constructing this yearbook for the purpose of making permanent record of accomplishments of our first year.”
The Ibis has been published annually since that first year and has grown considerably. The most recent volume of the Ibis was 480 full color pages, and created by staff of nearly fifty.
