Staying Up All Night for a Good Cause

SoC students to Create Campaign for Ron Magill Conservation Endowment Fund

Public Relations Campaigns, STC 436, is the capstone class for all University of Miami School of Communication public relations majors. The class works as a small firm, developing multifaceted campaigns for real-world clients. Previous clients include the John Offerdahl Gridiron Grill-Off, DJ Irie Foundation Weekend, and Herbert Wellness Center 20th Anniversary. The PREP Team is Ready to Spring Into Action

The Public Relations Experience Program (PREP) kicked off the spring semester on Saturday, Jan. 20, at the Jackson Health Foundation’s 2018 Golden Angels Centennial Gala. The event was at Soho Studios, a trendy warehouse event-space in Wynwood, and featured luxury cars from The Collection, hand-rolled cigars, a red carpet complete with an elaborate backdrop, models in sequin gowns and feathered head-dresses, and feathered swings. Fall 4C Pilot Grants Awarded

A total of eight faculty members spread across six departments were awarded 4C Pilot Grants by the University of Miami School of Communication Center for Communication, Culture, and Change. These grants are awarded three times per year to fund interdisciplinary projects that align with the mission of the center and are designed to provide data to compete for external funding from private, foundation, and government sources. Winston Warrior, a double alumnus, joins the Department of Journalism and Media Management after working for more than 20 years in the marketing industry. A new student-run consultancy is ready to take on clients at University of Miami School of Communication. Orange Umbrella Student Consultancy recently opened, offering an array of services to clients including public relations, advertising, interactive media, film production, research, and web design. The name for the consultancy was inspired by the orange umbrellas that dot UM’s campus and denotes the diverse student workforce and services provided under one umbrella. Communication Meet-Up a Success for Students and Employers

Last week, more than 160 University of Miami School of Communication students, faculty, and alumni filled the Frances L. Wolfson courtyard to mingle with industry leaders and network with specialists in film, multimedia, design, public relations, journalism, and various other communication fields.  Students met with representatives from more than 20 organizations including ESPN, Yahoo, and Fox News.
