UM PRSSA got the ball rolling in its human hamster ball event in the Grass Field Thursday afternoon.A sunny Florida day turned out to be perfect to enjoy 360 degrees of fun. PRSSA Kicks Off Year with Networking Event

“The Cotton Candy Connect” kicked off UM PRSSA’s fall membership drive in the School of Communication Courtyard Tuesday night.Nearly 40 students participated in the meeting networking activity. As they got to know each other personally and professionally, they were treated to freshly whipped up cotton candy.The fall membership drive continues through Oct. 1. Richter Library Launches Subject Guide for Media Management Research

Terri Robar, Social Sciences Librarian at the Richter Library, created an online Media Management Subject Guide to tailor library resources to the needs of Media Management students. This guide lists relevant books, databases, videos, and websites for the areas of media research, programming, entrepreneurship, and technology. A similar guide already exists for Advertising and Public Relations students. A $100,000 endowment, led by the Autumn Ridge Foundation with the help of School of Communication alumni, will honor a beloved public relations professor and provide lasting scholarship support to students who excel at writing. The Dr. Stanley L. Harrison Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund honors Professor Stanley “Stan” L. Harrison, who imparted his love of writing to hundreds of School of Communication students. Students Learn From ‘Best and Brightest’ During New York Experience

Stacks Receives Dorothy Bowles Award for Outstanding Public Service

Throughout his career, Professor of Strategic Communication Don Stacks has been applying research to the problems professional communicators face. “Often people go to other disciplines when they have a problem, but they’re actually communications problems,” Stacks said. “My focus has been to take the academic and put it into the profession in agreeable jargon that everyone can understand and use.” The Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication has now honored Stacks for his efforts with its Dorothy Bowles Award for Outstanding Public Service.
