The Miami Hurricane Takes First Place at the Sunshine State Awards

The Miami Hurricane, UM’s student-run newspaper, won first place in two categories at the 21st annual Sunshine State Awards held on Saturday, August 15. Winning the top award for Best Student Publication (High Frequency) and Best Website (High Frequency), The Miami Hurricane staff’s hard work was recognized during the statewide contest sponsored by the Society of Professional Journalists Florida Pro Chapter. Alumnus’ Gift to Launch Speaker Series on the First Amendment

James Hoffman, A.B. ’80, has made a $50,000 pledge that will create the James Hoffman Family Endowed Speaker Series in the School of Communication at the University of Miami.
