UM Debate Wins 2018 Lafayette Debates

For the first time since the inception of the Lafayette Debates, a team composed of only women clinched the victory. On April 8, Leandra Lopez and Julia Lynch, top debaters representing the University of Miami, defeated the team from France’s École de Guerre to win the annual debate tournament held at the French Embassy in Washington D.C. University of Miami Named to The Princeton Review 2018 List, ‘Top 25 Graduate Schools for Game Design’

The University of Miami has earned a #24 ranking on The Princeton Review's just-released list saluting the top 25 graduate schools for game design for 2018. UM Debate Defeats Clemson to Win the 2018 ACC Debate Championship

On March 3-4, The UM Debate Team traveled to Clemson, South Carolina to compete in the Fourth Annual Atlantic Coast Conference Debate Championship Tournament. In each of the first three years of the tournament, UM advanced into the finals but settled for second place. Documentary Nominated in Several Categories at International Film Festival

The 2018 London International Filmmakers Festival recognized a feature documentary co-produced and edited by Konstantia Kontaxis, associate professor for the Department of Cinema and Interactive Media, with nominations in several categories. Research Grant Recipients Announced

A total of five faculty members spread across three departments were recently announced as the 2017 – 2018 recipients of the Creative Activity and Research Grants. University of Miami School of Communication is hosting the 68th Annual Student Media Awards on May 2. “The Student Media Awards are a chance to recognize students for all their hard work throughout the academic year,” said Sam Terilli, department chair for the Department of Journalism and Media Management and associate professor. This semester, Ibis Yearbook, distraction Magazine, and their adviser, Randy Stano, were recognized with top awards at several media conventions. Distraction Print, Online Announced as Pacemaker Finalists

Distraction magazine and its website, distractionmagazine.com, have both been announced as Pacemaker finalists.  Presented annually by the Associated Collegiate Press, the Pacemaker awards recognize collegiate publications for their content, design, photography, and graphics. The stakes were high in both categories; the judges narrowed down 96 magazines to 22 finalists, and 137 online entries to 30 finalists.
