The School of Communication is delighted to announce the Graduate Student Opportunity Awards, which are intended to benefit historically underserved or underrepresented populations. This new funding, which is available to students applying to SoC graduate programs for fall 2022, is intended to support the University of Miami’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.

Each award consists of 50% tuition remission per year (toward a maximum of 12 credits per year), allowing the recipient to complete their program at a significantly reduced tuition cost.

Dr. Christina Lane, associate dean of Graduate Studies, said that she hopes this initiative encourages students to consider the School of Communication’s graduate programs as a distinct and attainable possibility.

“Our goal is to open up access to our School and provide as many opportunities to potential applicants as possible. Our programs offer such a range of possibilities, so our goal is to remove obstacles where we can.”

The School of Communication offers Masters programs in Motion Pictures (M.F.A.), Documentary (M.F.A.), Interactive Media (M.F.A.), Journalism (M.A.), Public Relations (M.A.), Communication Studies (M.A.), and Media Management (M.S.), as well as a Certificate Program in Media Management.

All interested incoming School of Communication graduate students are welcome to apply. Those interested should contact the Graduate Studies Office at socgrad@miami.edu. The final application deadline for all programs is July 15.
