The Climate Resilience Academy (UMCRA) is a University institute that coordinates resilience-focused efforts within the University and connects them with local, national, and international initiatives aimed at strengthening communities against shocks and stresses. Key focus areas include:

  • Hybrid and nature-based solutions
  • Innovative finance/insurance structures to fund resilience infrastructure projects
  • Supportive regulatory/policy frameworks for innovation and implementation
  • Capturing the “resilience dividend”
  • Extreme heat and the benefits of street trees
  • Post-disaster planning
  • Planning and hosting convenings

The Undergraduate Resilience Intern will serve as a core member of a closely-knit team and have the unique opportunity to help shape this developing center. We are seeking a highly-productive, creative and engaged individual who will help contribute to a work program that identifies innovative ways to landscape, monitor, and leverage opportunities for interdisciplinary cooperation and community engagement.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Create UMCRA outreach materials and graphics (e.g. logo, social media posts, powerpoint decks)
  • Implement program communication strategies, including timely social media posts, website updates, newsletter layout and distribution, and other materials
  • Research and build a library of UM-authored and other resilience publications
  • Maintain databases of UMCRA-related activities, faculty participation, and partner organizations
  • Assist with coordination, outreach, preparation of materials, and day-of logistics for meetings and events such as conferences, symposia, and Miami Climate Week
  • Serve as a liaison between UMCRA and the undergraduate study body by participating in outreach events such as tabling, club visits, and attending other student events
  • Provide additional assistance to support UMCRA initiatives, programs, and special events as needed

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled as an undergraduate student at The University of Miami
  • Background or interest in community-based resilience and UMCRA’s key focus areas
  • Proficient in Canva, Adobe and/or other graphic design software
  • Ability to manage professional and timely social media outreach
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite & Google applications
  • Curious, organized & reliable!

Terms of Employment:

  • 10-20 hours/week, starting Fall 2024
  • The internship stipend is $14/hour
