The Climate Resilience Academy (UMCRA) is a University institute that coordinates resilience-focused efforts within the University and connects them with local, national, and international initiatives aimed at strengthening communities against shocks and stresses. Key focus areas include:

  • Hybrid and nature-based solutions
  • Innovative finance/insurance structures to fund resilience infrastructure projects
  • Supportive regulatory/policy frameworks for innovation and implementation
  • Capturing the “resilience dividend”
  • Extreme heat and the benefits of street trees
  • Post-disaster planning
  • Planning and hosting convenings

The Graduate Resilience Fellow will serve as a core member of a closely-knit team and have the unique opportunity to help shape this developing institute. We are seeking a highly productive, creative and engaged individual who will help contribute to a work program that identifies innovative ways to landscape, monitor, and leverage opportunities for interdisciplinary cooperation and community engagement.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Conduct research, including literature reviews, to landscape and activate UMCRA’s thematic focus areas
  • Assist with project management needs, such as coordinating agendas, preparing presentations, sharing minutes and meeting summaries, etc.
  • Create data visualization products to communicate findings to partners
  • Create and maintain a database of relevant job/internship opportunities for students
  • Offer technical assistance, subject-matter expertise, and networking leads within the Fellow’s field of study and/or school
  • Work alongside the UMCRA team to plan and execute both on-campus and community events such as conferences and symposia
  • Serve as a liaison between UMCRA and the graduate study body, including advising UMCRA on practical graduate student needs such as presentation and conference opportunities, externship and employment support, etc. and promoting such services to the student body
  • Provide additional assistance to support UMCRA initiatives, programs, and special events as needed

Qualifications

  • Enrolled as a graduate student at The University of Miami
  • Background or interest in community-based resilience and UMCRA’s key focus areas
  • Background in research
  • Data visualization skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite & Google applications

Terms of employment:

  • 20 hours/week, starting Fall 2024-Summer 2025 with possibility for extension
  • $2,000 per month stipend
