PREP Students Assist Major Media at MCHF Diamond Ball

Saturday evening, Oct. 10, was the annual fundraising gala for Miami Children’s Health Foundation (MCHF) created to celebrate children, otherwise known as “diamonds.” Many people attended the ball to demonstrate their support of MCHF’s efforts, including celebrities like Armando Christian Pérez, the rapper known as Pitbull, and Cynthia Olavarria, at the JW Marriott Marquis in Downtown Miami for the 2015 MCHF Diamond Ball. PREP Students Learn PR for a Better Cause

Up early on Saturday, Sept. 26, PREP students assisted St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer. Senior Director-Field Manager Wanda Brill said if it wasn’t for organizations like PREP they wouldn’t be able to help those in need. At St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (in Memphis), families never pay for their children to receive treatment. A sea of black dresses, gold pins, and smiling faces greeted guests attending the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital “It’s All About the Kids” gala at the JW Marriot Marquis Miami on Sept. 19. The smiling faces guests saw upon arrival belonged to members of the University of Miami School of Communication PREP team. Assisting the Gala for more than five years now, members of PREP help the event organizers and public relations committee by assisting with greeting guests, checking in media, coordinating the red carpet, and escorting VIPs.   [...]

Four Decades of Giving: A Model Alumna’s Unwavering Support of the U

Twenty-three years after graduating the University of Miami, the ties that drew School of Communication alumna, Jeanne Wolf A.B. ’61, to her alma mater ran deep. That spring of 1984, she established the Jeanne Wolf Scholarship Fund — an award to help make a UM education accessible to a deserving School of Communication student. Her generosity did not go unreciprocated. SoC Faculty to Research Effect of Social Media on Healthy Behavior Choices

School of Communication faculty Jan Boehmer and Maria Scott are the most recent recipients of a Center for Communication, Culture and Change research award. The two faculty members from the Department of Journalism and Media Management and the Department of Strategic Communication, respectively, will collaborate to identify the processes that influence young people to make healthy behavior choices. PRSSA Elections Recap

The PRSSA elections were held Thursday, April 23 in Shoma Hall. Members of the club joined together to honor their graduating seniors and vote for the organization’s new executive board committee. Canes Film Fest Hype

On Thursday, April 9, PREP students took over the UC breezeway to promote the University of Miami’s 18th annual Canes Film Festival. PREP students tabled to raise awareness of the upcoming event by engaging with students and faculty passing by throughout the day. UM School of Communication Students Win 14 ADDYs

Mailers, apps and marketing campaigns characterized by their innovation led to School of Communication students taking home six gold and eight silver local ADDY awards. Students used skills learned in the classroom to take on corporate clients by creating campaigns for Mary Kay, Maker’s Mark and Johnnie Walker. They also tackled global and social problems, ingeniously addressing the issues of cyber bullying, Ebola and childhood obesity.
