The Steven Joel Sotloff Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund is awarded annually to a student pursuing journalism who demonstrates both academic success and financial need, and who is also a Florida resident. The scholarship is provided by 2Lives: Steven Joel Sotloff Memorial Foundation. Sotloff was a journalist who wrote for several publications including Time Magazine, The Christian Science Monitor, The Washington Post, and The L.A. Times. A new student-run consultancy is ready to take on clients at University of Miami School of Communication. Orange Umbrella Student Consultancy recently opened, offering an array of services to clients including public relations, advertising, interactive media, film production, research, and web design. The name for the consultancy was inspired by the orange umbrellas that dot UM’s campus and denotes the diverse student workforce and services provided under one umbrella. Graduating Senior Oliver Redsten’s Lifelong Passion for Journalism

Graduating this May, senior Oliver Redsten is a 22-year-old student double-majoring in broadcast journalism and political science, with a minor in history. Redsten found his passion for digital storytelling and journalism at a young age and credits the School of Communication for helping him grow and challenging him to ask “why journalism?” Originally from Madison, Wisconsin, Redsten has known he wanted to be in the broadcast journalism industry since he was five years old. University of Miami School of Communication is hosting the 68th Annual Student Media Awards on May 2. “The Student Media Awards are a chance to recognize students for all their hard work throughout the academic year,” said Sam Terilli, department chair for the Department of Journalism and Media Management and associate professor. Communication Meet-Up a Success for Students and Employers

Last week, more than 160 University of Miami School of Communication students, faculty, and alumni filled the Frances L. Wolfson courtyard to mingle with industry leaders and network with specialists in film, multimedia, design, public relations, journalism, and various other communication fields.  Students met with representatives from more than 20 organizations including ESPN, Yahoo, and Fox News. SoC Unveils Two New State-of-the-Art Centers

University of Miami School of Communication ushered in the interactive age with the dedication of two new centers on Friday, December 2. The school officially opened the Koenigsberg & Nadal Interactive Media Center and the Robert & Lauren Mann Broadcast Center in a unique ceremony emphasizing interaction and technology.
