Over the weekend of Oct. 25, 2019, the University of Miami policy debate team of Zachary Homeijer and Julia Lynch competed in the Varsity division of the Wayne State Ziegelmueller Invitational in Detroit, Michigan. During the competitive two days of debates, Miami defeated teams from Emory University, University of Indiana, and University of Iowa. Homeijer and Lynch ultimately ended as the 11th seeded team, just one spot short of qualifying for the elimination rounds. The University of Miami community is invited to an advance screening of WAVES at the Bill Cosford Cinema on Nov. 20 from 1:25-4 p.m. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the film’s director, Trey Edward Shults. Moses Shumow, Ph.D. ’10, a beloved University of Miami School of Communication alumnus tragically passed away on the morning of Oct. 22. He was riding his bicycle near Boston when he was struck by an MBTA Commuter Rail train. Shumow was living in Massachusetts, where he recently began working as an associate professor for journalism at Emerson College.
