Expanding Her Portfolio

Through an internship with M. Shanken Communications, rising senior Teddy Willson has contributed to both Wine Spectator and V magazines. It took me sitting down to write this to fully realize that I’m already halfway through my summer internships. It’s so hard to believe, it almost doesn’t feel real—like you could pinch me and I’d realize it was all a dream. Maybe it’s because I’ve been so busy. Or maybe it’s because this summer really has felt like a dream come true to this journalist-in-the-making.    In June, I began digital [...]

The student-run magazine was honored by the annual Michigan State University Design Contest for College Students. “Nip and Tuck.” That provocative title coupled with a similarly edgy picture of a woman ready for plastic surgery was one of several covers that helped garner a top award for the University of Miami’s student-led Distraction magazine. The fall, winter, and spring printed issues of Distraction were named “Magazine of the Year” in the overall design category. [...]

Shanken didn’t even know if he really wanted to be a journalist at first. But, he knew one thing – he loved wine.  This month, the Association of Magazine Media named Shanken the recipient of the 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award, one of the highest honors in the magazine media industry. Jonathan Newhouse, chairman and [...]
