2016 Staub Award Recipient Announced

University of Miami School of Communication announces Professor Ana François as this academic year’s recipient of the Robert and Christine Staub Faculty Excellence Award for Outstanding Achievement in Effective Teaching. François was recognized at the school’s annual end-of-year celebration and award show. 67th Annual Student Media Awards

On April 26, University of Miami School of Communication honored its students, alumni, and faculty at the 67th Annual Student Media Awards. Shoma Hall was filled with students, friends, and family, as hosts Danny New and S. Molly Dominick from UMTV’s Off the Wire introduced the first award as the “Please Become an Adjunct Award,” officially known as the Communicator of the Year. UMTV Wins 8 Journalism, Programming Awards

UMTV received three first place awards from the National Broadcasting Society’s honor society Alpha Epsilon Rho, three first place Region 3 Mark of Excellence awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, and two second place awards from the Florida Associated Press Broadcasters. The Mark of Excellence Awards from the Society of Professional Journalists honor the best in collegiate journalism reporting. Brigadier General Guest Lecturing and Recruiting

Brigadier General C. David Turner from the Army Corps of Engineers will be on campus on April 5 for two speaking engagements at the School of Communication and to discuss employment opportunities at the College of Engineering.  Ninety-five percent of the jobs available at the Army Corps of Engineers are for civilians and the corps is actively seeking individuals with communication skills. The blustery winds and threatening rain didn’t prevent students from attending the School of Communication’s Recruitment Pavilion, the first career fair organized by the Stein Family Office of Career Services, featuring companies companies tailored specifically to SoC industries. Superintendent of Everglades National Park to Visit UM

Pedro Ramos, superintendent of Everglades National Park, is visiting University of Miami School of Communication on Tuesday, March 29, to speak with students about the Everglades and the National Park Services.  Ramos’ visit is an opportunity for students studying journalism to put their skills to work. Professor Joseph B. Treaster tasked students in his class to ask Ramos questions during his visit and then write a hard news lead on his remarks.
