Making Connections Across the Globe

UM senior Breana Ross was awarded the 2018 Global Citizen Award from a national study abroad company. When University of Miami senior Breana Ross left the United States last spring to study abroad in South Africa, she thought she had a grasp of what poverty looked like. UMTV Sweeps NBS-AERho Nominations

UMTV swept the 56th Annual National Undergraduate Student Electronic Media Competition with 10 nominations recognizing the organization’s excellence in TV production. Alumna Wins Two Regional Emmys

UM School of Communication alumna Valeria Briceño, B.S.C. ’17, won two Emmy awards at the 42nd Annual Suncoast Regional Emmy Awards last month. Two UMTV Shows Nominated for College Television Awards

For the first time in over 15 years, two of UMTV’s weekly shows were nominated for the Television Academy Foundation 39th College Television Awards, one of the most prestigious honors for student production in the country. Produced by the same foundation that coordinates the Emmys, the College Television Awards almost mimics the famous television awards show and attracts college students from around the country to Hollywood each year. UM Alumna Receives 2018 Florida Bar Judge of the Year Award

SoC Mourns the Passing of Alumnus Mike McCormick

By: Karina Valdes The University of Miami School of Communication is mourning the loss of its alumnus Mike McCormick, B.S.C. ’04, who passed away on Monday while covering extreme weather in North Carolina for WYFF News4. McCormick and photojournalist Aaron Smeltzer both died when a tree fell on their news van. McCormick joined WYFF News4 in 2007 as a reporter. Two SoC Students Receive Scholarship

UM Family Night with the Miami Marlins featured a day at the ballpark with activities for faculty and staff, and a special pregame on-field presentation from The Miami Marlins Community Foundation Suzanne Rayson Scholarship Fund to two School of Communication students.  On April 14, Amanda Fuentes and David Perez were each presented with a $2,500 scholarship from The Suzanne Rayson Scholarship Fund benefiting students studying broadcast journalism who have shown an interest in sports broadcasting.
