Call for Entries: Wine Spectator Foundation Competition To Award Up To $50,000 For Student Projects

The Wine Spectator Foundation will award up to $50,000 to School of Communication undergraduate and graduate students for projects about wine, food, restaurants, travel or tourism. Such projects may include, but are not limited to, a video or short documentary, news or feature writing, a press kit, an advertising project, a graphic design project, a photography portfolio, multimedia (website) or a scholarly paper. Alumni create sequel to acclaimed Cheerios ad for Super Bowl XLVII

Behind one of the buzziest Super Bowl ads leading up to this Sunday’s ultimate football contest, Super Bowl XLVIII, are recent UM graduates Taylor Lucas, B.S.C. ’11, and Nick Marchese, B.S.C. ’11, billed, respectively, as the art director and copywriter for the 30-second Cheerios spot featuring a multiracial family.  University of Miami School of Communication (SoC) graduates Lucas and Marchese helped create the follow-up ad to a May 2013 Cheerios commercial featuring the same family—a black dad, a white mom, and their young daughter. Students Show Their Skill at 5th Annual PhilADthropy

After 25 hours of non-stop brainstorming, writing, designing, and creating, the School of Communication's fifth annual PhilADthropy ended Saturday morning with blear-eyed smiles and an impressive array of creative services to benefit local nonprofit organizations.  Sixteen local nonprofits were selected to participate in PhilADthropy, which pairs 120 School of Communication students with professional team leaders to develop campaigns and collateral in 25 sleepless hours of energy-drink fueled creativity. Stephen I. Sadove, retired chairman and chief executive officer of Saks Incorporated, will speak with School of Communication students at 2 p.m. on Feb. 27 in Shoma Hall, room 3053 in the Communication International Building.  Sadove is widely regarded as an innovative leader in retail.
