Graduating Senior Oliver Redsten’s Lifelong Passion for Journalism

Graduating this May, senior Oliver Redsten is a 22-year-old student double-majoring in broadcast journalism and political science, with a minor in history. Redsten found his passion for digital storytelling and journalism at a young age and credits the School of Communication for helping him grow and challenging him to ask “why journalism?” Originally from Madison, Wisconsin, Redsten has known he wanted to be in the broadcast journalism industry since he was five years old. Stano Recognized with SND Lifetime Achievement Award

68th Annual Student Media Awards

University of Miami School of Communication is hosting the 68th Annual Student Media Awards on May 2. “The Student Media Awards are a chance to recognize students for all their hard work throughout the academic year,” said Sam Terilli, department chair for the Department of Journalism and Media Management and associate professor. Interactive Media Show Coming to University of Miami

The University of Miami School of Communication’s Interactive Media Show will be held on May 4. Guests of the event will be able to explore and play with projects created by students including virtual reality installations, physical computing systems, and interactive video. University Of Miami Named to The Princeton Review 2017 List, “Top 25 Graduate Schools to Study Game Design”

University of Miami earned a ranking on The Princeton Review's just-published list saluting the top 25 graduate schools to study game design for 2017. This is the School of Communication Interactive Media M.F.A. program’s third appearance on the prestigious list since its inception in 2013. The M.F.A. program was ranked No. 25 this year. Moonlight Co-Producer To Guest Speak at UM

Andrew Hevia, co-producer of the Academy Award winning film, Moonlight, is giving a special talk at University of Miami School of Communication, April 21 at 10 a.m. in CIB 3053, Shoma Hall. The talk titled From Medicine to Moonlight: How A Short Film and A DIY Festival Paved The Way To The Oscars, will be followed by a Q&A session. This event is open to the UM community.

MMA Panel: Job Application and Interview Tips

For its last meeting of the academic year, the Media Management Association invited four faculty from the Department of Journalism and Media Management with considerable professional experience to offer advice to graduating seniors about their first job applications and interviews. UM Debate Team Wins Coastal Division in ACC Debate Championship Tournament

Should the United States Electoral College be abolished? That was the topic presented to debaters at the Third Annual ACC Debate Championship Tournament held April 1-2. Presented by the ACC Academic Consortium, for two days students from 10 ACC member schools argued their position on the topic, advancing in the tournament through a bracket system, much like athletic ACC tournaments.
