University of Miami PREP students had an early yet rewarding start to their Saturday by assisting the staff of the South Florida office of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with its annual St. Jude’s Run/Walk to End Childhood Cancer at the Miami-Dade County Fair Grounds on Sept. 24.

St. Jude is one of the original partners for the PREP program and, as such, students in the course have been gaining valuable experience with the organization for more than six years. For the Run/Walk, PREP students assisted with runner check-in, social media, press escorts, VIP and runner greeters.

“We love working these type of events because they’re for a good cause and they’re very entertaining to be at,” said PREP Senior Manager Nadia Bacchus, a senior in public relations.

PREP students got a unique look into the race, handling celebrity and media check-ins which heavily involved news anchors from NBC 6 and Telemundo.

Although the Run/Walk is a quick event, the students gained experiences that they can take into the future. PREP’s next event with St. Jude is It’s All About the Kids gala on Saturday, Oct. 1, at the JW Marriott Marquis in Brickell.
