UM Debate ranked No. 11 nationally, competes at West Point

The first National Intercollegiate Debate Rankings for 2013 have been posted, and The University of Miami Debate Team is ranked among the nation’s elite.  In the National Debate Tournament (NDT) rankings, UM placed 11th (of 115 member schools), and the Cross Examination Debate Association (CEDA) rankings place UM at #12.  UM is second in the Southeast Region to Wake Forest, who is ranked 6th by the NDT and 5th by CEDA. Debate Team Rises to No. 8 in National Rankings

Barbecue Unites Alumni and Students for Homecoming

By Emily Young On Friday, Nov. 8, students, alumni, faculty, staff, and family gathered in the School of Communication courtyard to catch up and enjoy a barbecue. UM Debate Hosts Inaugural Pan American Universities Debating Championships

University student debaters from the western hemisphere will compete at the School of Communication this weekend as the University of Miami Debate Team hosts the inaugural Pan American Universities Debating Championships.  The tournament uses the rules and format of the World Universities Debating Championship. UM Debaters Earn Top Tournament Honors

David Silverman and Spencer George are the 2014 Junior Varsity Southeast Debate Champions.  Debating at Emory University on February 21 to23, Spencer and David compiled a perfect 6-0  record, advancing into finals where they won a 3-0 decision to defeat ACC rivals Wake Forest and claim the championship.  Also competing and contributing to the UM success were Joe Karam and Russ Wilde, Adrianne Babun-Chavaria and Anna Shah, and Nabiha Aziz and Anna Ivanova.  On February 15, UM Debate also defeated local rivals to win the championship of the Miami Dade [...]

University of Miami Debate National Finalists

American Debate Association National Championships, Liberty University, Lynchburg, Virginia, 3/14-16On Sunday March 16th, the UM Novice Debate Team of Barbara Puodzius and Anna Ivanova advanced to the final round of the American Debate Association National Championships tournament hosted by Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. UM Debate Finishes Season Ranked No. 6, Will Host Irish Debate Champions
