Communication Meet-Up a Success for Students and Employers

Last week, more than 160 University of Miami School of Communication students, faculty, and alumni filled the Frances L. Wolfson courtyard to mingle with industry leaders and network with specialists in film, multimedia, design, public relations, journalism, and various other communication fields.  Students met with representatives from more than 20 organizations including ESPN, Yahoo, and Fox News. Documenting Hate

SoC Unveils Two New State-of-the-Art Centers

University of Miami School of Communication ushered in the interactive age with the dedication of two new centers on Friday, December 2. The school officially opened the Koenigsberg & Nadal Interactive Media Center and the Robert & Lauren Mann Broadcast Center in a unique ceremony emphasizing interaction and technology. By: Karina Valdes The University of Miami School of Communication recently named the Robert & Lauren Mann Broadcast Center in honor of alumnus Robert “Bob” Mann, B.A. ’70, who is being recognized for his unwavering support of the university for more than 30 years. The dedication ceremony takes place on Friday, December 2, at 3:30 p.m. in the courtyard of the Frances L. Wolfson Building. Media makers, academics and technologists from all over the world will be discussing the impact that media has on building a better world in the Media for Change Virtual Conference, a 12-hour global virtual event held on Nov. 17. On Aug. 30, the rain didn't stop University of Miami’s award-winning publications and organizations from getting together and encouraging students to get involved. 67th Annual Student Media Awards

On April 26, University of Miami School of Communication honored its students, alumni, and faculty at the 67th Annual Student Media Awards. Shoma Hall was filled with students, friends, and family, as hosts Danny New and S. Molly Dominick from UMTV’s Off the Wire introduced the first award as the “Please Become an Adjunct Award,” officially known as the Communicator of the Year. UMTV Wins 8 Journalism, Programming Awards

UMTV received three first place awards from the National Broadcasting Society’s honor society Alpha Epsilon Rho, three first place Region 3 Mark of Excellence awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, and two second place awards from the Florida Associated Press Broadcasters. The Mark of Excellence Awards from the Society of Professional Journalists honor the best in collegiate journalism reporting.
