What started as a hobby for advertising graduate Olga Martinez has turned into a small business that has captured the hearts of children and parents all over Miami. Richter Library Launches Subject Guide for Media Management Research

Terri Robar, Social Sciences Librarian at the Richter Library, created an online Media Management Subject Guide to tailor library resources to the needs of Media Management students. This guide lists relevant books, databases, videos, and websites for the areas of media research, programming, entrepreneurship, and technology. A similar guide already exists for Advertising and Public Relations students. The School of Communication welcomes 11 new faculty members this fall across its four departments. Meet our new faculty members: Dr. Susan E. Morgan is director for the Center for Communication, Culture, and Change and a professor in Communication Studies. Dr. Morgan’s research interests involve the design and evaluation of persuasive messages targeting health behavior change in multicultural populations. A $100,000 endowment, led by the Autumn Ridge Foundation with the help of School of Communication alumni, will honor a beloved public relations professor and provide lasting scholarship support to students who excel at writing. The Dr. Stanley L. Harrison Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund honors Professor Stanley “Stan” L. Harrison, who imparted his love of writing to hundreds of School of Communication students. Students Learn From ‘Best and Brightest’ During New York Experience

University of Miami Wins National Student Advertising District 4 Competition

For the third year in a row, the University of Miami School of Communication’s National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) team – the Miami Collective -- won first place at this year’s American Advertising Federation’s National Student Advertising District Competition.  The UM team now heads to Phoenix, Ariz., June 5-8, to compete nationally against 18 other district-winning schools. A number of bright and talented students can be found at The School of Communication. Each year, the SoC names a group of outstanding seniors who have achieved academic excellence during their time at the University of Miami. School of Communication Receives $1 Million Gift for Student Scholarships

University of Miami alumnus Robert Mann, the UM School of Communication Visiting Committee chair and a member of the University's Board of Trustees, has made a $1 million planned gift to a School of Communication scholarship fund. Mann, B.A.’70, has designated his donation to the Samuel and Grace Mann Endowed Scholarship Fund named after his parents. The fund supports scholarships for deserving undergraduate students majoring in broadcast journalism each year.
