Nine UM SoC Faculty Awarded a Creative Activity and Research Grant

Nine University of Miami School of Communication faculty were awarded a School of Communication Creative Activity and Research Grant from the Center for Communication, Culture, and Change for the 2018-2019 academic year. Craig Robins, president and CEO of Dacra, is sharing his expertise with the University of Miami School of Communication, April 11 at 4 p.m. in CIB3053, Shoma Hall. This event will be moderated by award-winning journalist, Rula Jebreal, visiting professor in the School of Communication at the University of Miami. Internship and job-hunting season has arrived. On March 28, University of Miami School of Communication’s Fourth Annual Communication Meet-Up will enable students and alumni to connect with professionals from a variety of communication fields. Staying Up All Night for a Good Cause

On Feb. 23, I volunteered to stay up all night to help a local nonprofit during the ninth annual PhilADthropy, where students like me create campaigns and other communication pieces in 25 hours.  The event kicked off at 11 a.m. at the University of Miami School of Communication’s courtyard with speeches by assistant professor of practice in the Department of Strategic Communication and PhilADthropy founder, Meryl Blau, and dean of the School of Communication, Dr. Gregory J. Ninth Annual PhilADthropy is Launching to Help Local Nonprofits

Eleven leading non-profit organizations from South Florida were chosen to participate in the Ninth Annual PhilADthropy at the University of Miami School of Communication, where students create vibrant campaigns and other advertising materials in one 25-hour, coffee-fueled marathon for some of the most deserving local non-profits. Fall 4C Pilot Grants Awarded

A total of eight faculty members spread across six departments were awarded 4C Pilot Grants by the University of Miami School of Communication Center for Communication, Culture, and Change. These grants are awarded three times per year to fund interdisciplinary projects that align with the mission of the center and are designed to provide data to compete for external funding from private, foundation, and government sources. Creative Juices Flowing at Student-Run Consultancy

A new student-run consultancy is ready to take on clients at University of Miami School of Communication. Orange Umbrella Student Consultancy recently opened, offering an array of services to clients including public relations, advertising, interactive media, film production, research, and web design. The name for the consultancy was inspired by the orange umbrellas that dot UM’s campus and denotes the diverse student workforce and services provided under one umbrella. Communication Meet-Up a Success for Students and Employers

Last week, more than 160 University of Miami School of Communication students, faculty, and alumni filled the Frances L. Wolfson courtyard to mingle with industry leaders and network with specialists in film, multimedia, design, public relations, journalism, and various other communication fields.  Students met with representatives from more than 20 organizations including ESPN, Yahoo, and Fox News.
