Father-daughter duo, David Isaacs and Andie Isaacs paired up to create and produce the pilot of an original sitcom Life On Mars that will now premiere at their alma mater, the University of Miami.

David Isaacs is a University of Miami School of Communication alumnus that has more than 40 years of experience in production and writing: titles include, M*A*S*H, Cheers, Wings, Frasier, Becker, and Mad Men.

Andie Isaacs recruited her father to be executive producer on Life On Mars, which was, at the time, only a rough screenplay written by her and fellow School of Communication graduate, Jake Gillman. David Isaacs agreed to be involved with the project after reading the screenplay.

“After reading the first page of the script, I called Andie. It truly is like nothing I have ever read before,” David Isaacs said. “Jake has a unique writing style that is very hard to find today.”

Life On Mars takes a unique perspective as a show-within-a-show. It is a fictional comedic drama about the life of struggling screenwriter David Mars. He keeps a daily diary in the form of a screenplay as a coping method for his anxiety. These private accounts become the “realest” piece of work he’s ever produced and this is the very screenplay that gets picked up by Ellie Blue, an up-and-coming literary agent who sees potential in Mars’ writing.

“Life On Mars is very much a relatable human comedy, not only with the main characters comic struggles with career and romance, but with family and life and death issues,” David Isaacs said. “It is a comedy that has the feel of something uniquely real.”

The Miami premiere of Life On Mars will take place at the Bill Cosford Cinema at the University of Miami on Nov. 3, 2015 at 7 p.m. The event is hosted by the University of Miami School of Communication and the Department of Cinema and Interactive Media.
