Alumnus Javier Morgado inducted into prestigious Silver Circle honor society
The University of Miami School of Communication proudly celebrates alumnus Javier “Javi” Morgado on his recent induction into the esteemed Silver Circle honor society by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). This recognition is a testament to Morgado’s distinguished career and significant contributions to the television industry.
The Silver Circle honors professionals who have demonstrated excellence in television for 25 years or more, acknowledging not only their longevity but also their enduring impact on the industry. Inductees are recognized for their commitment to innovation and setting high standards, as well as for their mentorship and service to the community.
Morgado held the position of Executive Producer for CNN’s At This Hour with Kate Bolduan and previously led CNN’s morning show New Day as Executive Producer. Prior to CNN, Morgado held several management positions during his 11-year run at NBC News including Supervising Producer for the TODAY Show from 2006-2010.
A four-time Emmy award recipient, Morgado’s journalism was praised for its in-depth reporting on significant events, such as George Floyd’s murder and the FBI raid on Roger Stone. His coverage of Hurricane Maria’s devastation in Puerto Rico also earned him the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award.
Reflecting on his induction into the Silver Circle, Morgado expressed his deep gratitude: “I am so incredibly humbled to receive one of the highest honors bestowed by the Academy. It was so special to be honored alongside such accomplished colleagues who I have long admired. It was beyond a pinch-me moment for the son of Cuban immigrants who realized his childhood dream of becoming a journalist.” Morgado joins an elite group of industry leaders whose contributions continue to shape the future of television.
Karin Wilkins, dean of the School of Communication, shared her admiration for Morgado’s success and his commitment to giving back: “We are very proud of our SoC alum Javi Morgado’s professional success. Javi has been dedicated to sharing his counsel as part of the Dean’s Advisory Committee, his expertise and support to our UMTV students, and his experience with high school students participating in our summer journalism workshops, which launched his own student interest in broadcast journalism.”
