• The University of Miami School of Communication is bidding its beloved dean farewell. Dr. Gregory J. Shepherd, the third dean of the School of Communication, is retiring after eight years of transformational leadership and more than 40 years of service as a distinguished faculty member and administrator at several major universities.


  • Six short films created by University of Miami film students will be screened in Los Angeles this week.

    Miguel Angel Tamayo, a University of Miami rising senior, has always been in love with film. For many years, he watched a film a day. When he saw Carlos Saura’s "Cria Cuervos," the 1976 Spanish drama of loss and loneliness, he was smitten.


  • Tianyi Xu traveled across the globe to exercise her passion for meaningful research. She found her perfect fit at the University of Miami School of Communication.

    Now completing her last semester, graduation marks the next step in advancing her passion for family and computer-mediated communication research.

    Xu’s interest in bettering communication within families undergoing difficult circumstances grew from personal experience.


  • At the 70th Annual Student Media Awards, University of Miami’s student media outlets were recognized for achievements during the 2018-2019 academic year. The ceremony also acknowledged an exceptional alumnus of the School of Communication Department of Journalism and Media Management who has made an impact in the media profession. Javier Morgado, B.S.C. ’98, received the 2019 South Florida Communicator of the Year award for his contributions to the field.
