Workshop with Acclaimed Video Game Creator

Navid Khonsari, known for his work at Rockstar Games on the Grand Theft Auto and Max Payne series, will present his latest independent game 1979 Revolution, a documentary cinematic game about the revolution in Iran. The workshop will include a presentation showing the game from conception to its current form, as well as the process of crafting a narrative cinematic experience through an interactive medium. Dave Aizer ‘Go Out and Do It’

University of Miami School of Communication alumnus Dave Aizer spoke with students on Oct. 14 about his experience in the media industry. Distraction Wins Crown Finalist

Distraction Magazine has won a Crown Award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association at Columbia University. The Crown Awards honor top student publications, which are judged on their design, photography, concept, coverage, and writing.  All of the publications are acknowledged as Silver Crowns, except for a select few which will be announced as Gold Crowns at the ceremony in New York City in March of 2016. PREP Students Assist Major Media at MCHF Diamond Ball

Saturday evening, Oct. 10, was the annual fundraising gala for Miami Children’s Health Foundation (MCHF) created to celebrate children, otherwise known as “diamonds.” Many people attended the ball to demonstrate their support of MCHF’s efforts, including celebrities like Armando Christian Pérez, the rapper known as Pitbull, and Cynthia Olavarria, at the JW Marriott Marquis in Downtown Miami for the 2015 MCHF Diamond Ball. “Boniato” Wins Best Short Film at DIFF

Diabolique International Film Festival (DIFF) has honored “Boniato,” directed by The Meza Brothers, Diego Meza-Valdes and Andres Meza-Valdes, as Best Short Film. Diego Meza-Valdes, B.S.C. ’09, graduated with a double major in motion pictures and studio art. Andres Meza-Valdes, B.S.C. ’09, graduated with a double major in motion pictures and theater arts. The film travels next week to the Toronto After Dark Film Festival, known as one of the best horror film festivals in the world, where it will be one of nine international films shown.

PREP Students Learn PR for a Better Cause

Up early on Saturday, Sept. 26, PREP students assisted St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer. Senior Director-Field Manager Wanda Brill said if it wasn’t for organizations like PREP they wouldn’t be able to help those in need. At St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (in Memphis), families never pay for their children to receive treatment.
