World Information Architecture Day Comes to School of Communication

University of Miami School of Communication is hosting World Information Architecture Day (WIAD) on Saturday, Feb. 20, 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.  The event brings together a diverse community of information architects, user experience designers, content strategists, product managers, developers, scholars, and students to share their experience in designing information in a manner that is useful. SoC Faculty Recipients of 2016 Provost’s Research Awards Announced

Four School of Communication professors received 2016 Provost’s Research Awards, which will provide salary support and direct research costs to the faculty for a wide range of research projects. School of Communication faculty received four awards, one in the arts discipline and three for research in the social sciences. Professors Sanjeev Chatterjee, Lien Tran, Gunwoo Yoon, and Nick Carcioppolo are this year’s recipients from the School of Communication. SoC Professors’ Film Makes it to the Big Screen

Dillard High School in Broward County is home to one of the country’s most successful high school jazz bands. Sweet Dillard is a documentary that follows the Dillard High School Jazz Ensemble through its struggles and triumphs during the 2014 academic year. The film, which is almost two years in the making, will premiere on March 6 during the Miami International Film Festival. MMA Meeting: Student Opportunities at eMerge Americas

On Feb. 3, 2016, David Añón spoke to members of the Media Management Association to explain how an upcoming Miami-based technology conference could benefit students interested in startups and innovations. Añón is vice president of marketing for eMerge Americas, a conference held at the Miami Beach Convention Center since 2014. eMerge Americas promotes the advancement of technology and acts as a launch-pad for innovations and ideas. University of Miami students and local community join together for PhilADthropy 2016

This past weekend marked the seventh annual PhilADthropy at University of Miami School of Communication. The 25-hour event consisted of 13 student teams creating advertising, marketing, branding, design, and public relations materials for local nonprofit organizations. PhilADthropy and AD Group organizers selected the organizations from more than 100 entries and also reached out to alumni and industry professionals to volunteer their time and talents. NATPE Internship: Insights from Two SoC Students

Every year, the National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE) offers a competitive internship program that allows selected students to attend the conference and develop a greater knowledge of the television buying and distribution processes. Since 2011, the annual NATPE conference has been held in Miami Beach.
