Exploring the Global Definition of Journalism

Considering the diverse political, social, and economic environments spanning the globe, the definition of journalism morphs from culture to culture. School of Communication Professor Jyotika Ramaprasad explored these diversities through extensive quantitative research in India and Botswana. Ramaprasad serves on the executive board of the Worlds of Journalism Study (WJS), an academically-driven data collection project. Ibis and Distraction Receive National Awards

It was a celebratory spring break for the Ibis and Distraction staffs. Two Gold Crowns, one Best of Show, a Second Place for Best of Show, and two Apples were awarded between two national conferences. The Ibis, Distraction print issue, and Distraction online page were honored by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) in New York City at the Spring National College Media Convention 2019 with Gold Crown awards. Making Connections Across the Globe

UM senior Breana Ross was awarded the 2018 Global Citizen Award from a national study abroad company. When University of Miami senior Breana Ross left the United States last spring to study abroad in South Africa, she thought she had a grasp of what poverty looked like.
