UM Debate Team Advances to Finals at Liberty University Tournament

By: Jabria Roscoe University of Miami’s Policy Debate Team advanced to the final round of the Liberty University (LU) Debate Tournament held Jan. 24-26 in Lynchburg, Virginia. The LU tournament is a nationally ranked annual debate competition. UM Student Publications Dominate National Awards Show

University of Miami student publications were recently recognized with top awards at the College Media Association and Associated Collegiate Press Mega College Media Workshop in Washington D.C.   The 2018 Ibis yearbook picked up it 13th Pacemaker Award, while The Miami Hurricane and Distraction magazine were named as Pacemaker finalists. The Ibis was one of three college yearbook Pacemakers. The other two college yearbook Pacemakers were from Loyola Marymount University and Kansas State University. UM Debate Team Wins 2020 Social Justice Debates

The University of Miami is the 2020 Social Justice Debates National Champion. Two UMTV Shows Nominated for College Television Awards

The College Television Awards recognize excellence in student production, with this year’s nominees selected out of 374 submissions from 112 schools across the nation. Policy Debate Duo Competes in Detroit

Over the weekend of Oct. 25, 2019, the University of Miami policy debate team of Zachary Homeijer and Julia Lynch competed in the Varsity division of the Wayne State Ziegelmueller Invitational in Detroit, Michigan. During the competitive two days of debates, Miami defeated teams from Emory University, University of Indiana, and University of Iowa. Homeijer and Lynch ultimately ended as the 11th seeded team, just one spot short of qualifying for the elimination rounds.
