Bring your floaties this Sunday, Sept. 3, for a special screening of Disney’s The Little Mermaid at the UC Pool. A feature film comedy, Chateau Vato, recently completed principal photography. The story focuses on a family of impoverished Latinos who squat in a lavish Miami mansion and assume an upper class lifestyle.  Chateau Vato is bursting with physical comedy and memorable one-liners. A new student-run consultancy is ready to take on clients at University of Miami School of Communication. Orange Umbrella Student Consultancy recently opened, offering an array of services to clients including public relations, advertising, interactive media, film production, research, and web design. The name for the consultancy was inspired by the orange umbrellas that dot UM’s campus and denotes the diverse student workforce and services provided under one umbrella. Andrew Hevia, co-producer of the Academy Award winning film, Moonlight, stopped by University of Miami School of Communication to shed light on Miami’s artistic value and the components of an Oscar-worthy film. The talk, titled From Medicine to Moonlight: How A Short Film and A DIY Festival Paved The Way To The Oscars, began with Hevia describing his first encounter with Barry Jenkins, director of Moonlight. Moonlight Co-Producer To Guest Speak at UM

Andrew Hevia, co-producer of the Academy Award winning film, Moonlight, is giving a special talk at University of Miami School of Communication, April 21 at 10 a.m. in CIB 3053, Shoma Hall. The talk titled From Medicine to Moonlight: How A Short Film and A DIY Festival Paved The Way To The Oscars, will be followed by a Q&A session. This event is open to the UM community.

UM Sweeps CinemaSlam

Students and alumni from the Department of Cinema and Interactive Media were the overwhelming winners at CinemaSlam, the student competition division of the 34th Annual Miami Film Festival, taking home six out of eight awards.  “I was not surprised by the success of the films. Communication Meet-Up a Success for Students and Employers

Last week, more than 160 University of Miami School of Communication students, faculty, and alumni filled the Frances L. April Dobbins was given the chance of a lifetime when she was selected as one of four 2017 Sundance Knight Fellows. FilmGate Interactive Media Festival Coming to UM
