Annual Student Showcase to Honor Student Media and Alumna

The Department of Journalism and Media Management will host the 65th Annual Student Showcase from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday April 28 to honor outstanding contributions in student media. Students from UMTV, The Miami Hurricane, Distraction Magazine and the Ibis Yearbook will be recognized for their achievements throughout the year. SoC To Host Chicas Poderosas Interactive Storytelling Workshop

Chicas Poderosas — an organization dedicated to empowering Latin American women journalists to excel in visual storytelling, data visualization and interactive media with hands-on skills training — will hold its first workshop in the United States from April 17 to 20 in Miami. Barbecue Unites Alumni and Students for Homecoming

By Emily Young On Friday, Nov. 8, students, alumni, faculty, staff, and family gathered in the School of Communication courtyard to catch up and enjoy a barbecue. C-SPAN Bus Visits School of Communication

To public relations and political science senior Allison Novack, C-SPAN is the best of many worlds— a media outlet with a public service mission in government. When she was offered an internship with the network over the summer, she leapt at the opportunity. Scripps Executive to Address Media Management Association

Brian G. Lawlor, MBA 1996, will visit the School of Communication to share his experiences as a television executive with the Media Management Association. He will address the MMA at 5 p.m. on Jan. 28 in room 2055 of the Communication International Building.  Lawlor, 47, is senior vice president of The E.W. Scripps Company television division, which includes 19 stations and digital businesses in 13 U.S. markets. In 2012, the television division was the largest contributor of revenue to the company. The Columbia Scholastic Press Association just announced the winners from the yearbook and digital media categories of its 31st Gold Circle Awards program. This year, CSPA received 4,279 entries produced by students at colleges, universities and secondary schools throughout the United States. Knoxville News-Sentinel Editor Discusses Future of Newspapers With MMA
