SwampScapes: A Journey Through the Everglades

As South Floridians, we boast beautiful beaches and tropical temperatures, but often fail to acknowledge the sweeping beauty of the Florida Everglades. As the earth undergoes accelerated change, understanding the landscape’s function in human and ecologic survival is essential. Join the Data Revolution: VizUM Symposium

Undergraduate Interactive Media Major Now Available at the SoC

A new undergraduate major is now available at the University of Miami School of Communication. In fall of 2018, the SoC began offering the Interactive Media major, equipping students with design skills and a technological fluency that allows them to explore the expressive possibilities offered by emerging forms of communication. Interdisciplinary Team Receives Provost Research Award

The Provost’s Research Awards supports individual or collective research projects that contribute significantly to the growth of the university’s research portfolio. This year, a relatively small research team composed of Barbara Millet, Juan Chattah, and Soyeon Ahn, received the award to pursue an ambitious research project. The team’s project, The Congruence-Association Model in Musical Multimedia: New Insights from Eye-Tracking and Facial Expression Capture, explores the effect music has on multimedia experiences. Come play with us! The Interactive Media End of Year Show is May 3 at 5 p.m. in the University of Miami School of Communication Koenigsberg and Nadal Interactive Media Center. The annual showcase features work by students in the Interactive Media program ranging from games, physical computing, and web, to augmented and virtual reality projects. Nine UM SoC Faculty Awarded a Creative Activity and Research Grant

Craig Robins: The Interplay of Architecture, Design and Branding

Craig Robins, president and CEO of Dacra, is sharing his expertise with the University of Miami School of Communication, April 11 at 4 p.m. in CIB3053, Shoma Hall. This event will be moderated by award-winning journalist, Rula Jebreal, visiting professor in the School of Communication at the University of Miami. Robins is a developer, designer, philanthropist, and artist. Early in his career, Robins launched the economic revitalization of South Beach’s Art Deco District through meticulous renovation.
