Tableau Workshop at the SoC

On Wednesday, Feb. 11, the School of Communication and the Center for Computational Science will be hosting two identical sessions of an introduction to Tableau. This workshop is part of the VizUM series. Tableau has rapidly become one of the most popular data visualization tools on the market. Grant Funds New Educational Resource on Ocean Health

The University of Miami’s Department of Cinema and Interactive Media at the School of Communication has received a two-year grant of over $405,000 from the Friends of Stark Parks in conjunction with the Herbert W. Hoover Foundation. The funding will go towards the creation of a unique Open Educational Resource (OER) that will not only explain the science underlying ocean health management, but also help bring the specific work of top researchers from their worldwide field locations to university curricula. Invoking the Pause: Creating Games for the Caribbean Climate

Professor Lien Tran represented UM and the School of Communication in Barbados to organize a workshop exploring communication of climate risk using game systems. Interactive Media Game Atlantis is an Official Selection for IndieCade

Atlantis, a game developed by professor Clay Ewing in collaboration with students Rebekah Monson and Franklin Zhang is an official selection for IndieCade. IndieCade is the largest global independent game festival, and Atlantis was one of 36 games chosen of over 1000 submissions from around the world to be featured to the community and festival attendees. Make a Move: Professor’s Board Game Helps Young Immigrants Plot Their Futures

Life in the United States for the thousands of young, unaccompanied, and undocumented immigrants who continue to arrive from Central America can be daunting. Many end up in detention centers where they must make legal decisions that will determine their future.
