Communication Meet-Up a Success for Students and Employers

Last week, more than 160 University of Miami School of Communication students, faculty, and alumni filled the Frances L. Wolfson courtyard to mingle with industry leaders and network with specialists in film, multimedia, design, public relations, journalism, and various other communication fields.  Students met with representatives from more than 20 organizations including ESPN, Yahoo, and Fox News. UM Hosts Irish Debaters for Public Debate

Three Irish debaters are traveling to the University of Miami after winning the Irish Times Final. UM Hosting Third Annual ACC Debate Championship Tournament

University of Miami School of Communication is hosting the third annual ACC Debate Championship Tournament April 1-2, 2017. As part of the ACC Academic Consortium, the ACC Debate Championship Tournament sets the 15 member schools of the ACC against each other in a fierce academic debate. SoC Unveils Two New State-of-the-Art Centers

University of Miami School of Communication ushered in the interactive age with the dedication of two new centers on Friday, December 2. The school officially opened the Koenigsberg & Nadal Interactive Media Center and the Robert & Lauren Mann Broadcast Center in a unique ceremony emphasizing interaction and technology. UM Debate Team Wins American Debate Association Fall Championship

From November 11-13, members of the University of Miami Debate Team were in Pennsylvania for the American Debate Association Fall Championship Tournament hosted by Clarion University. The team of Julia Lynch and Adam Kozloski took first place in the Novice Division. In semifinals, Lynch and Kozloski defeated the United States Naval Academy and then faced the University of Minnesota in finals to win the tournament. UM Debate Hosts Rwandan Debate Delegation

On Tuesday, September 20, for the second consecutive year, UM Debate hosted iDebate Rwanda in a public debate on the motion, Aid to Africa Does More Harm Than Good. Rwanda is a country in East Africa known for only one thing; the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi people. In the space of 100 days, one million innocent people died for the sole reason of being born Tutsis. UM Debate Scores at First Tournament

On September 18-21, the UM Debate Team traveled to Atlanta, Georgia to compete in the season opening intercollegiate debate tournament hosted by George State University. One-hundred-and-sixty-seven two-person teams representing 37 universities competed across three divisions in the tournament. In the Junior Varsity Division, the team of Anna Shah and Ted Appel won four of six preliminary debates to advance into the round of 16.
