“Storming Papa Doc” Screening at University of Miami School of Communication

“Storming Papa Doc,” the new documentary directed by Mario L. Delatour, is a historical reenactment that depicts the story of former Haitian army officers who, in 1958, are exiled to Florida only to return with a vengeance and a plan to overthrow Haitian president, Dr. Francois Duvalier. Animated and intercut with interviews of friends and family members of the brigade, the film explores the lives of each officer. Grant Funds New Educational Resource on Ocean Health

The University of Miami’s Department of Cinema and Interactive Media at the School of Communication has received a two-year grant of over $405,000 from the Friends of Stark Parks in conjunction with the Herbert W. Hoover Foundation. Herrick Center Wins Knight Arts Challenge to Expand Cosford Classics

The Norton Herrick Center for Motion Picture Studies was selected from nearly 1,200 applicants to receive one of 47 South Florida Knights Arts Challenge grants. It will use the $15,000 award to expand the Cosford Cinema’s Cosford Classics series, which showcases films presented on 35 mm. Professor Don Stacks Wins Lifetime Achievement Award

Don Stacks, a professor of public relations and a leader in public relations research and education, received the 2014 PRIDE Contribution to Public Relations Education Award from the National Communication Association’s Public Relations Division last week. UM Debate Team Rankings for Fall 2014

The Cross Examination Debate Association (CEDA) and the National Debate Tournament (NDT) have posted their first rankings of the year. The University of Miami Debate Team is currently #19 on the CEDA list and #17 on the NDT list. These lists reflect overall squad performance.
