The UM Debate Team Does it Again: Novice Debaters Bring Home First and Second Place

With the promise of cold weather and stiff competition, the University of Miami’s debate team travelled to Indiana to compete in the fifth annual Hoosier Invitational Tournament in Bloomington. PR Students Work Behind-the-Scenes During PhilADthropy

By Meghan Allison In an event unlike any other, 16 teams of University of Miami students participated in PhilADthopy, a 25-hour blitz that ultimately produces free public relations, advertising, marketing and social media strategies to selected organizations. UM School of Communication to Create Open Educational Resource on Ocean Health

The University of Miami's Department of Cinema and Interactive Media at the School of Communication has received a two-year grant of more than $405,000 from the Friends of Stark Parks in conjunction with the Herbert W. Hoover Foundation. April Dobbins, Graduate MFA Student, Receives Award from the S.J. Weiler Fund

April Dobbins, a graduate student in the motion pictures program, was recently presented with a $20,000 award from the S. J. Weiler Fund, a private foundation that honors the work of mid-career artists. The award is made in recognition of individual artistic achievement and creativity, as well as significant contributions to the arts community. The award is by nomination only, and a selection committee comprised of influential art figures chooses awardees. Jon Landau Coming to the Cosford

Jon Landau, described by SoC professor Dr. John Soliday as "the Edison of film technology," will be at the Cosford Cinema on Monday, Jan. 26, 1-3 p.m. The master's class will be moderated by Dr. Soliday and will include a Q&A session, film clips and advice from the producer of the two biggest film attractions in history, "Titanic" and "Avatar." This event is open to all University of Miami students.
