From November 11-13, members of the University of Miami Debate Team were in Pennsylvania for the American Debate Association Fall Championship Tournament hosted by Clarion University. The team of Julia Lynch and Adam Kozloski took first place in the Novice Division.
In semifinals, Lynch and Kozloski defeated the United States Naval Academy and then faced the University of Minnesota in finals to win the tournament. Aside from winning first place in the Novice Division, Lynch was also named the top individual speaker in the tournament.
The UM team of Tiffany Perez and Jiaying “Libby” Li also advanced into semifinals, losing to Minnesota. Perez was named fifth place speaker in the tournament. In the Junior Varsity Division, Anna Ivanova and Anna Shah were the second place team, advancing into the final round, but losing in a split decision to Vanderbilt.
The team was coached by Patrick Waldinger and Oliver Brass.
