The Chatty Cafe initiative addresses social isolation and loneliness, a worldwide epidemic, by offering a very inexpensive and simple solution. Our simplicity is our “point of difference” – getting people to connect and chat in a range of social venues such as cafes, bars, college campuses, libraries, hospitals, community centers, retirement homes, sporting and recreation clubs – anywhere that people can safely and comfortably sit and talk, building social connections.

Chatty Cafe is a community focused and driven effort to get people chatting. Social venues are encouraged to sign up to provide a shared “Chatty table” where customers can sit if they are happy to talk to other customers and ‘Have a Chat’.

About The Role

We are looking for a person with a ‘Can Do’/ ‘Go Getter’ attitude, Extrovert and a passion for our mission and a desire to contribute to the growth of this global initiative.

The social media, marketing and community engagement Intern will assist with a range of tasks designed to promote the Chatty Cafe mission of bringing people together in an effort to combat social isolation and loneliness.

This will include social media, journalism, PR, marketing and community engagement campaigns. You will be comfortable contributing ideas and undertaking outreach efforts to promote and grow the Chatty brand profile. The ideal candidate is creative, confident, outgoing and active across the main social media platforms. You will contribute to the overall marketing and community building initiatives of Chatty Cafe USA.

This is a great opportunity to develop your communication, leadership and networking skills.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

-Community engagement and promotion of the Chatty mission

-Event Planning

-PR

-Write blog posts/articles

-Develop creative ideas for social media campaigns and content including photos and videos/reels

-Develop creative marketing ideas for community outreach

-Track social media engagement to identify high-performing ideas and campaigns

-Research strategies to maximize engagement

-Assist with the creative development and distribution of promotional content, presentations, flyers, brochures, etc.

-Help the team stay up to date with social media trends

-Assist with various content/communication projects

COMPETENCIES & QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience with major social media platforms including Instagram, Tik Tok, Facebook, etc.

Experience using Canva or a willingness to learn

An understanding of each social media platform and its capabilities

Excellent time management skills and the ability to multitask

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

This volunteer internship experience can be aligned to receive academic credit. Please let us know if you are interested in this type of internship and liaise with your college to determine dates and hours based on college requirements.

If you are seeking a volunteer internship without gaining academic credit, we can also accommodate this arrangement for approx. 1-2 hours per week.
