UM Family Night with the Miami Marlins featured a day at the ballpark with activities for faculty and staff, and a special pregame on-field presentation from The Miami Marlins Community Foundation Suzanne Rayson Scholarship Fund to two School of Communication students.
On April 14, Amanda Fuentes and David Perez were each presented with a $2,500 scholarship from The Suzanne Rayson Scholarship Fund benefiting students studying broadcast journalism who have shown an interest in sports broadcasting. Rayson, who served as the Marlins director of broadcasting from 2002 to 2008, died after a battle with cancer.
Fuentes is a junior at the University of Miami School of Communication majoring in broadcast journalism and minoring in public relations and sports administration. She is an executive producer for SportsDesk on UMTV, UM’s award-winning cable station, and is also a media production intern with the Miami Heat.
Perez is a sophomore at the University of Miami School of Communication majoring in broadcast journalism and minoring in political science and sports administration. He is an anchor and reporter for SportsDesk on UMTV. In 2018, Perez, along with School of Communication student Danyel De Villiers, won Best of in the Television Sports Story/Feature category from the Broadcast Education Association Festival of Media Arts for their package D’Mauri Jones: Painting Inspiration.
