Students enrolled in the Public Relations Experience Program (PREP) ended their first week of classes with a night of laughter in Miami Shores. Comic Cure’s Ladies Night OUT was on Aug. 26 at the Miami Theater Center and served as the backdrop for a fun way to kick off a PREP semester filled with events throughout South Florida.

“Over the past year we’ve hosted more than a dozen events benefiting twenty charities and more than 140 comedians. That kind of impact can’t be done alone,” said Benjamin Leis, Comic Cure managing director and alumnus of the School of Communication. “The PREP team is integral to our success and we’re fortunate to be partners with the School of Communication.”

PREP is only as successful as the students enrolled in the course make it. Antonella Brianna Valdivia managed the first event of the season. Jess Clavero resumed her role as the Social Media manager for Comic Cure, making sure the event was well documented on Instagram and Twitter. The two newest additions to PREP, Hannah Africk and Natalia Gonzalez, each had the opportunity to take photos, check in guests, assist with social media, and, most importantly enjoy the show.

“As an alumnus of the SoC, nothing brings me more pride and joy than to see the incredibly dynamic work of our faculty and students,” said Leis. “Comic Cure would not be where it is today without PREP. Period. For a small, young company like ours, having a team that can come in and handle event logistics is invaluable. From red carpet photography, to guest check-in, social media posting, to comedian handling, media liaison and more, PREP handles each task with ease and professionalism.”

PREP partners with organizations throughout South Florida that provide opportunities for the students to grow and learn in the field of public relations, journalism, special events, publicity, promotions, marketing, social media, and more. Comic Cure started as a PREP partner in 2015 and has already contributed to PREP’s cultivation within the community.

“Learning from and helping to develop the professionals of tomorrow inspires me to provide a new level of service and commitment to our guests and community,” said Leis.
