A number of bright and talented students can be found at The School of Communication. Each year, the SoC names a group of outstanding seniors who have achieved academic excellence during their time at the University of Miami.

Brooke LeMaire was named the 2013 Outstanding Senior in Public Relations, the school’s most popular major.

“It’s a true honor to be recognized among such a talented student body,” LeMaire said. “I’m so grateful for the wonderful opportunities UM has offered in order to provide a well-rounded and hands-on education.”

LeMaire, 22, of Palmetto Bay, is a public relations and psychology major with a minor in motion pictures. A recipient of the competitive Wine Spectator Foundation Scholarship, LeMaire pursued her diverse personal and career interest through UM activities ranging from helping to publicize the University’s first Chinese New Year Celebration in 2012 to public relations work on behalf of area nonprofits. She was also involved in the Public Relations Student Society of America and the Ibis yearbook. As an intern at the School of Communication, she was instrumental in promoting news of student and faculty achievements, and events at the School and the Bill Cosford Cinema.

“Brooke is outstanding – as student, young professional, and person,” said  Colee Splichal, a Public Relations faculty member. “You can always count on her. She’s sunny, smart and talented, of course. But she also invests herself fully in meeting a challenge and seeing it through to success because she cares. That attitude should take her far.”

LeMaire graduates on Friday, May 10, 2013 and has, no doubt, a successful future in store. Popular South Florida attraction, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, in Coral Gables, recently offered her a position in its marketing department, where she interned last summer. She said her years at the SoC were invaluable.

“I’ve made wonderful friends with my classmates and professors at the School of Communication, and I know my peers are going on to do amazing things,” LeMaire added. “I can’t wait to hear about all the successes they have in their future endeavors.”
