Assistant Professor of Professional Practice
(Jack) Wesley P. Miller IV comes to the School of Communication with more than 26 years of experience in the profession of Public Relations. He served as a public relations officer in the United States Air Force from 1992 to 2014. While serving in the Department of Defense he worked for the Secretary of Defense and collaborated with Congress, the White House and the State Department on national defense issues. He has also worked government issues at the state and local levels. While at the Pentagon, he was the spokesman for the United States Air Force and worked some of the most pressing crisis issues of the day. Jack also shared his expertise with strategic programs helping them earn, for example, the successful award of an aircraft contract exceeding $34 Billion.
Jack has served as a public relations advisor in multiple capacities for more than 10 countries worldwide. Such public relations efforts include spearheading humanitarian welfare ventures in Africa to overseeing combat operations in Afghanistan. While in Afghanistan, he was an advisor to President Karzai and the Afghan ministers. He also managed and oversaw all Afghan and most US media conferences in Afghanistan from 2009-2010.
Since retiring from government service Jack works for Wounded Warrior Project helping military combat veterans, he is a founding member of the South Florida Defense Alliance, is an advisor for the Miami-Dade County Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee and he has also served as Senior Counsel of Government & Military affairs for rbb Communications.
During his tenure in government service he was recognized as a premier public relations expert being recognized as the #1 public relations officer for the Secretary of Defense, receiving 19 Air Force level public relations awards. His team also received the PRSA “Best of Silver Anvil” award in 2010 for issues management.
