
The UX Design intern will gain exposure to day-to-day planning, executing, and analysis of user centered research and design work for audiences of our nonprofit mission. Your work will contribute directly to helping the organization think about user goals, and prioritizing features to be built. You will gain exposure or learn to refine research questions, plan studies, analyze raw observations using usability heuristics, explore low-fidelity design options, review designs, and finally raise the fidelity of your design into a prototype that can be researched further.
Five Principal Learning Responsibilities
- Learn how to plan and conduct original user experience research & design. (20%)
- Hone skills in analyzing and sharing out user research observations & insights. (30%)
- Gain exposure to creating designs for different goals including those of the business, technology, and users. (15%)
- Gain exposure to non-profit implications of product development. (15%)
- Hone skills in collaborations with digital product teams and stakeholders. (20%)
Related Field of Study Required
UX Design, Computer Science, Human Computer Interaction, Information Science, Anthropology, Communications. Students will need to be enrolled in school during the internship.
Knowledge and Skills Required
Good communicator both written, visual and in-person. Familiarity with UX design. Knowledge of tools like Figma, Airtable, and scheduling tools.

Work Designation
Our internships are US based. The 2025 program will be mostly remote. Students will be invited to our DC headquarters one week in June to attend one of our signature events.
Salary Information
The pay rates for this internship are as follows:
- $18.55 (undergraduate)
- $22.00 (graduate)
