The External Communications & CSR Specialist is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of external communication tactics and programs, including social media and public relations, as part of the SGWS Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Department.

This role ensures the effective integration of all communication methods and channels to cultivate awareness and to provide clarity, consistency and maximum communication impact among all internal and external audiences.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support the company’s national social media program by managing the social media content calendar and staying current with the latest industry trends, social media best practices, and platform updates 
  • Create compelling and relevant content for social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, X, and Instagram. This includes drafting copy, graphics, videos, and other multimedia content tailored to our audience
  • Implement effective public relations programs to support the company’s strategic priorities and enhance its reputation as an industry leader and socially responsible business
  • Secure impactful media coverage for SGWS subject matter experts, solutions, and the overall brand, including pitching and engaging trade and business reporters, facilitating media interviews and writing/editing bylined articles
  • Draft press releases and other external communications materials on corporate social responsibility programs, wine and spirits trends, business wins, strategic partnerships and initiatives, events, and personnel announcements
  • Support on the implementation of enterprise Corporate Social Responsibility programs
  • Provide support to the internal communications team with various writing and creative projects, including contributing and posting to SGNN Intranet site
  • Provide support to the crisis management team in crisis planning and response
  • Collect local market CSR activity and compile for potential use on employee intranet site, social media and Philanthropy report

Additional Primary Responsibilities

  • Actively monitor national business and trade media for industry trends, issues, and company and competitor news
  • Maintain corporate fact sheets and executive bios
  • Maintain and fulfill a monthly and yearly trade publication editorial calendar
  • Write monthly features stories for the external website
  • Manage Cision daily news and social media platform for monitoring and preparation of weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual news reports
  • Support administration of employee volunteering and fundraising platform, VolunCheers Online
  • Contribute to the development of annual social media strategy and calendar as part of the overall Public Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility plan
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree plus 3 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated writing and editing skills with ability to distill, organize and convey complex information in a logical, visually pleasing, and user-friendly manner and to direct communications at broad audiences
  • Proficient in using design software like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or other content editing tools. A portfolio showcasing previous design work is a plus.
  • Experience practicing media relations in corporate or agency environment
  • Proven success in getting articles and news stories published in national, local and trade publications, online news, blogs and broadcast outlets
  • Experience in planning and executing events, including logistics and speech writing

  • Physical demands with activity or condition may occasionally include walking, bending, reaching, standing, squatting, and stooping
  • May require occasional lifting/lowering, pushing, carrying, or pulling up to 20lbs
