The College Sports Feature Team produces high-end features and original shows for ESPN’s college networks. The approximate dates of this internship are January 2025 to May 2025.
What You Will Do
As an intern on the team, you will participate in weekly staff meetings, collaborate with feature producers and coordinating producers about feature ideas, concepts, research feature ideas from social media and articles. You will report to a Producer, contributing to the team by:
- Gathering elements for features (game records, melts, specialty ENG/Film from ESPN, school video groups, photos from schools or Getty, announcer calls from games and radio from Media Archive and Music)
- Collaborating with feature producers on rough cuts and story structure, logging All Access footage and sound for All Access shows
- Organizing, communicating and distributing completed features, vignettes, etc. for use on other shows, ESPN networks and platforms
- Observing and assisting on field shoots with feature producers, especially local shoots at schools in driving distance of Charlotte
- Producing vignettes (short, high-end feature content) for air on college networks
- Attending various event opportunities relative to understanding the overall company and observing departments outside of Production
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience in sports media, preferably in television production, or involvement with collegiate TV station
- Elite knowledge of sports, including current athletes, rules and events
- Familiarity with server-based media and/or non-linear editing equipment including but not limited to Final Cut Pro and Quantel
- High level of familiarity with ESPN programming, platforms, studio shows and original programs (Documentaries, All Access, Films, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Historical knowledge of US sports
- Experience with editing, screening, logging and/or archiving video
- Familiarity with sports business trends and technologies
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a professional role, organization or activity
Education
- Be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months at time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
- Major or previous coursework in Journalism, Broadcast, Sports Media or related major preferred
Eligibility Requirements & Program Information
Candidates for this opportunity MUST meet all of the below requirements:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have not completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program
- Possess unrestricted work authorization
Additional Information
- The approximate dates of this internship are January through May 2025
- Able to work days, nights and weekends for the duration of the internship, 40 hours each week
- Able to provide own housing for the duration internship program in the Charlotte, NC area
- A limited amount of housing assistance may be provided for those who qualify
- Able to provide/have reliable transportation to/from work
