The University of Miami’s College of Arts and Sciences seeks a student intern for Spring 2025 to work in the Office of Communications. The intern will support the office’s efforts to create and share compelling news about the college, including articles on faculty, students, research, programs, and events.
The intern’s primary responsibility will be to write news articles for the college’s website. Depending on the intern’s interests and the office’s needs, the intern may also have the opportunity to help with the production of the Spring 2025 issue of the college’s magazine.
This position is open to full-time enrolled students at the University of Miami and will report to the college’s Senior Communications Specialist. The intern will gain hands-on experience conducting interviews and writing news articles. They will also have the opportunity to participate in communications trainings and to learn how to use the college’s web content management system and media monitoring platform.
The intern will work a maximum of 15 hours a week and must have availability during the day. Some work may be completed remotely. Depending on their availability, the intern may occasionally be asked to attend and write about events that occur in the evening. The intern can receive up to 3 internship credit hours through their major.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct interviews and write news articles about the College of Arts & Sciences
- Post articles on the college’s website
- Assist with the production of the Spring 2025 issue of the college’s magazine
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
- Experience writing news articles in an academic or internship setting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to multitask and take on new tasks as assigned
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Good news judgement
