Overview

The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, health and biomedical research organization.

We are seeking an individual with a passion for project management and graphic design. Ideal candidates will have strong attention to detail, excel in written communication, proficient in Microsoft, Canva, and the Adobe Creative Suite.

Job Description

The Graphic Design candidate uses knowledge of current design software to create a visual identity, produce graphic art and visual materials for digital/print marketing strategies such as promotions, social media, direct mail, email marketing, advertisements, video, etc. Additionally, the candidate collaborates with HIHG communications and marketing colleagues to ensure brand alignment.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with designing and creating visual assets, such as marketing materials, social media graphics, and website layouts.
  • Collaborate with the design team to brainstorm and execute design concepts for various projects.
  • Help maintain and organize the design team’s files, design systems, and assets.
  • Participate in design critiques and provide feedback on design projects.
  • Complete other design-related tasks as assigned, including but not limited to:
    • Blog, social media, and slide deck/docs imagery.
    • Graphic designs for print, advertising, and swag.
    • Learn our illustration design style – This will be used to help with artwork creation and explorations.

Job Requirement Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field.
  • Strong creative skills and experience with social media analytics · Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite. (Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign)
  • Knowledge or experience of working with master brand guidelines preferred.
  • Understanding of design principles and aesthetics.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented and able to produce work in a deadline-oriented manner.
  • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Not afraid to ask questions to get better, faster.
  • Must submit a portfolio of work.

Bonus Qualifications

If you have experience in any of the following areas, these make you stand out:

  • You can illustrate; or have solid fundamentals in drawing/sketching.
  • Knowledge of basic animation principles.
  • Social media marketing skills (strategic content planning and content creation)
  • Experience with website design and development. (HTML, CSS, WordPress, Webflow, etc.)
  • Understanding of branding and marketing strategies.
