Roles and Responsibilities:
Part-time internship position as a staff assistant within the City of Weston Communications Department. Work is performed under the supervision of the Communications Director and Assistant Communications Director. Primary responsibilities include updating of documents as directed in multiple platforms; phone calls; writing and publishing news articles; special projects; photography; preparing of certificates and proclamations; maintaining storage inventory; radio script recording; community outreach at City events and miscellaneous office work as needed. This position will involve extended time at a keyboard or workstation.
This position requires strong written communication skills. This position may involve driving and photography of areas throughout the City, including various City facilities. This position requires a person with a flexible nature and positive attitude and excellent organization skills.
Candidate can expect to learn and assist with:
- Developing, writing, and distributing approved social media campaigns across multiple platforms.
- Media relations
- Photography, including naming and cataloging of files and alternate tags for accessibility
- Writing newsletter articles
- Use of content management system (CMS) to publish articles and content on website
- Writing and posting information to City intranet
- Assist in development of content for City cable television channel, including graphics
- Assist with special projects as assigned
Requirements:
- Degree-seeking student in Communications/PR, Public Administration, or related field preferred
- Valid U.S. Driver’s license
- High School diploma
- Ability to lift 30 pounds
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate should be strongly interested in dealing with the public and community. The well-organized and responsible candidate should also have experience in Microsoft Office applications, professional phone etiquette, customer service, and how to effectively operate and utilize office technologies such as computers, copy machines and related equipment.
The candidate should be an excellent communicator capable of operating in a professional office environment. Clothing attire is business casual or better; collared shirts and pants for men; blouses, pants, skirts, or dresses for women.
