Rockstar Games is seeking an Associate Researcher to join our Research team. This role will be tasked with doing deep-dive research into people, locations, events, and other happenings – both real-world and fictional – at the request of various creative teams across Rockstar. The successful candidate will have an insatiable curiosity, a track record of successful research projects, and a passion to help make Rockstar’s games as great as they can be.
Please note, this is a remote, full-time position.
WHAT WE DO
- The Rockstar Games Research Team collect and organize background information to assist departments company wide.
- We handle research requests from global creative teams as well as individual Rockstar employees.
- We collaborate with any company department that requests our service, including writing, art, game design, motion capture, marketing, and other creative teams within the company.
- We look for and submit corrections for in-game inaccuracies that appear in game builds.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the global development team with targeted, clear, insightful research and reference material.
- Produce deep-dive reports on a wide range of topics – from the mainstream to the obscure – tailored to the needs of the end user (writers, artists, designers etc.)
- Travel to real-world locations for field research both alone and with other Rockstar staff.
- Contribute to the internal research dept blog.
- Work closely with the Digital Asset Manager to contribute to and maintain the internal archive.
- Work closely with the Location Manager to conduct on-site research.
QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree or equivalent.
- Research experience for journalism, academia, broadcasting, or professional web sites.
SKILLS
- Exceptional research, writing, comprehension, and analytical skills.
- Exceptional communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills and ability to work well under deadlines.
- A knack for interpreting data as well as telling stories visually.
- Ability to break down complex topics and write about them clearly and concisely.
- Ability to “read between the lines” of various media to deduce subtexts.
- Ability to deliver work in any required style.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
- Must be a self-starter who is comfortable working both very independently and very collaboratively.
- Deep knowledge of cultural and criminal trends.
- Voracious appetite for news, music, film, tv, video games and pop culture in general.
- Intellectual curiosity and drive to find your own answers.
- Willingness to accept feedback and work through multiple iterations.
