The Role:

Calling all aspiring journalists: The Boston Globe is now accepting applications for its 2026 summer internship program 🗞️

The deadline is Nov. 1 at 11:59 p.m. EST. You need at least 10 writing samples and an essay — topics listed on the application, which you can find here: https://www.bostonglobemedia.com/student-opportunities/

If you’re gunning for the sport internship, some tips for candidates:
➡️ Vary your clips. We want to see versatility in your topics and reporting styles so we can get a better sense of your work. If you submit only features, we won’t be able to learn how you do with breaking news, for example.
➡️ Student journalists have a tendency to write long. All that shows editors is that you don’t know how to find the heart of a story. Push yourself to include clips that demonstrate your ability to write tight.
➡️ Keep in mind that this internship is super competitive. The best way to set yourself apart: your essay. Spend time with it, ask friends to edit it, and don’t make it an afterthought.

Additional Details:

The program hires reporters in the News, Business, Sports, and Living/Arts departments as well as a photographer, designer, and copy editor. Internships are NOT limited to students pursuing journalism majors.

Eligible are all students currently enrolled in an undergraduate program; graduating college seniors (May or June 2026 graduation date) and enrolled graduate school students.

This paid program is full-time and lasts 12 weeks. There is a writing coach for the reporting interns, and discussions with editors and staff on a range of topics for all interns.
